I create one-of-a-kind pieces of art of your loved one, be it person or pet.  I work exclusively from photographs. Color pencil is my medium of choice.  My color pencil portraits do not necessarily look like color pencil... or at least what the average person thinks of color pencil. Many, without knowing in which medium I've worked, refer to my portraits as paintings. I like the freshness of a pencil with the qualities of paint.  I am able to blend, build rich solids and yet obtain good transparencies. I use only professional artists' color pencils that are light-fast and moisture resistant.

Although I've worked on a variety of surfaces, I keep coming back to matboard.  I like the durability.  I don't worry that I may put a crease in my drawing that will show forever. Modern technology offers matboard that is acid-free and fade resistant, that will virtually last for eternity.  I like some of the textures.  Most of all, I like the wide selection of color.  A medium to light ground provides

me the opportunity to add not only the darker values defining the form, but lighter values for the highlights as well. Unlike traditional drawing philosophy that states, "build from light to dark", I start in the middle and work toward both ends.  I use the color of the board to run through the drawing, tying it all together.
